@Linneus If the Barbarian doesn't have at least some powers with that ability, something is profoundly wrong.

Don't overlook the obvious idea of adapting the rather common monster power Skirmish (+damage dice if you move at least X squares) to PC use. In fact, I would be rather amazed if this didn't turn up in print somewhere soon.

@Goose The argument of finding a system to match is a really very reasonable one, and my only counterargument is that I have yet to find a system for swashbuckling (including my own) that I'm 100% content with, so I keep hacking at stuff to see what comes up.

@Cam God, yes, I know exactly what you mean about the hamstringing.

AEG's Swashbuckling Adventures and Adamant's Skull and Bones were instrumental at getting a handle on swashbuckling in 3e for my group. My first 3e campaign was Elizabethulhu, which included lots of swashbuckler fare, from wheellocks to rapiers, and Freeport did pirates some service. Of course, at the end of the day, these were all mostly flavor, and the real crime is that in a true swashbuckling adventure you shouldn't need a feat or class feature to pull of dashing stunts and leap from the rigging. That's especially true of AEG's book, which placed the burden of swashbuckler action on feats, thereby hamstringing otherwise-fine archetypes who hadn't chosen those feats at chargen.

I do think, of course, that you have had a love affair with swashbuckling for as long as I've known you. Try imagining any Amber campaign without it.

See, I'm more of the opinion and practice of finding the system that matches the game I want to play. Were I want to play something more cinematic, I wouldn't use D&D4e. I'd use Savage Worlds, or perhaps Fate (SotC). D&D4e has a certain flavor mixed in with its mechanics, and I'd rather just find another flavor rather than trying to modify the recipe.
